Scholarship applications are filled out online and applicants can apply for up to 7 schools at a time. There are three opportunities to earn a four-year full-tuition scholarship throughout the academic year:

• The first week of October
• The first week of January
• The last week of March

The most competitive applicants will have a strong GPA and physical fitness test scores and be involved in athletic and/or community service activities. Evidence of previous leadership positions and a solid interview will also help set candidates apart for scholarship selection.

If awarded a scholarship, Army will pay full-tuition OR room and board, $1200/yr for books, and a monthly stipend of $420/mo.

You will owe the Army a minimum 8 years of service which can be fulfilled in one of two ways:

• 4 years in full-time active-duty service, followed by 4 years of inactive reserve service

       OR

• 8 years of part-time national guard / reserve service

If you decide that you don’t like ROTC within you first year, you can cancel your scholarship and the Army will still pay your first year’s tuition with no obligation for service.

For students who know that they do not want to compete for active duty, and also know that they do not want a combat MOS, the Army Reserve Minuteman Scholarship allows for broadened options. Please be advised that this scholarship will lock you into the Army reserves without the option to compete for active duty.

Scholarships are available to students who are currently enrolled in college. The award can pay full-tuition or $12,000 for room and board. The length of scholarship can be anywhere between 3.5 and 2.0 years. If you wish to apply, your best bet is to join ROTC and become as actively engaged as possible and state your intent to earn a scholarship. The ROTC cadre will assess your leadership potential to determine eligibility. As scholarship money becomes available, cadre will rate your merit against the peers in your year group to determine who will be awarded the offer.

The most competitive candidates will possess the following characteristics:

• High college GPA
• Dedication to ROTC program
• Top performance in ROTC classes and labs
• Excellent Army Physical Fitness Test scores
• Ability to be medically qualified

If awarded a scholarship, Army will pay three years’ tuition, $1200/yr for books, and a monthly stipend of $420/mo.

You will owe the Army a minimum 8 years of service which can be fulfilled in one of two ways:

• 4 years in full-time active-duty service, followed by 4 years of inactive reserve service

       OR

• 8 years of part-time national guard / reserve service

Three-year scholarships will allow you to be competitive to serve in the active-duty Army after commissioning and graduation, however, you can still choose to serve in the National Guard or Army Reserve.

If awarded a scholarship, Army will pay two years’ tuition, $1200/yr for books, and a monthly stipend of $420/mo.

You will owe the Army a minimum 8 years of service which can be fulfilled in one of two ways:

• 4 years in full-time active-duty service, followed by 4 years of inactive reserve service

       OR

• 8 years of part-time national guard / reserve service

Two-year scholarships can also come with the additional condition that you will not be allowed to compete for active duty.

For students who know that they do not want to compete for active duty, and also know that they do not want a combat MOS, the Army Reserve Minuteman Scholarship allows for broadened options. Please be advised that this scholarship will lock you into the Army reserves without the option to compete for active duty.

Outside of ROTC scholarships, cadets that enlist and serve in the National Guard or Army Reserve while in college can obtain benefits from the Simultaneous Membership Program. This program allows students to serve in their reserve component units while also actively participating in Army ROTC as a cadet.

• SMP cadets will be required to follow their unit’s drill schedule, which is one weekend per month and two weeks during the summer.
• They’ll receive drill pay, which amounts to $3000-$4500 per year.
• Contracted cadets receive monthly stipend of $420 a month during school year.

Unfortunately, not everybody who participates can be guaranteed the opportunity to commission and not every cadet the completes the program will be given a scholarship. All cadets that want to earn the commission, even if it means not getting a scholarship, must sign a contract with the Army before the end of their junior year. Students who do contract will be eligible for a $420/mo. stipend and enrollment in the advanced level ROTC coursework and training.

• Contracting commits you to 8 years of service with the Army.
• 4 years active duty, followed by 4 years inactive or actively drilling reserve component.
• 8 years on National Guard or Army Reserve.
• Contracted cadets receive monthly stipend of $420 a month during school year.
